At Holistic Reflections HQ we like to thoroughly test all products before recommending them. We can't wait until the end of our 30 day trial of a BEMER horse set and want to let you know all about it!
What is BEMER?
BEMER therapy products for humans and horses are designed to improve circulation and support the body’s natural self-regulating processes. Blood is the universal means to transport essential oxygen, nutrients, chemical messengers and immune cells, among others.
Only when all cells, tissues and organs are adequately nourished and all metabolic waste products removed, can horses be healthy and their bodies function properly.
"Circulation is the corner stone of the horses health, longevity, and quality of life"
- BEMER Group
What are the positive effects of BEMER on horses?
BEMER Group claim BEMER horse set:
Improves microcirculation [1]
Supports parasympathetic processes in the organism [1]
Promotes relaxation and regeneration after exertion [1]
Increases performance [1]
Optimizes exercise through increased suppleness [1]
Helps prevent and increases defense against infection [1]
Speeds up the recovery process after an injury [2]
Improves the anesthetic experience and regeneration after surgery [2]
We ALL benefit from improved circulation!
Microcirculation occurs in the smallest blood vessels, and can’t be observed with the naked eye. Nevertheless, it has a huge effect on the health and performance of your horse. Why? Because it’s here that your horse’s vital metabolic processes take place – cells are supplied with nutrients that enable them to fulfill their tasks- and so metabolic waste products may be are removed for disposal. Put simply, healthy microcirculation is essential to your horse’s all-around well-being.
Here are videos showing blood flow before and after BEMER therapy...
INITIAL SITUATION
Reduced vasomotion, slow blood flow, virtually no transport of white blood cells, capillaries are not perfused...
IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE BEMER THERAPY
Significantly increased vasomotion, rapid blood flow, virtually needs-based transport increased transport of white blood cells.
Our BEMER horse set trial!
We have been working with our equine team to learn and document the effects of the BEMER set and will provide an update on our findings very soon. With one horse in particular, we were blown away with what we witnessed, from day 1! We are of course talking about Turtle, an interesting thoroughbred ex-racehorse mare with a unique way of expressing herself; we observed a huge change in attitude and she allowed us to touch her all over after the FIRST treatment. In the past, Turtle has been defensive over her personal space and will 'wave her legs' if she perceives her space is invaded, even when there isn't any real threat at all! This makes daily tasks such as grooming and placing rugs on her to keep her warm and dry in inclement weather very challenging. Turtle is also defensive around the other horses and dogs and this was always a concern, even though she has never hurt anyone whilst in our care, on 2 or 4 legs!
Now, Turtle is very happy to accept rugs or touch and for the team here at Holistic Reflections CIC, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the positive shifts in her behaviour and attitude, as a direct result of BEMER sessions daily. It certainly lived up to the claims BEMER make following their research over the years!
Above: Turtle relaxed and wearing an older BEMER model which delivers the identical technology and with the same benefits as the newest version! In this photo she is relaxed during her 8 minute session and the leg wrap is actually at her upper neck and poll region. The newest version comes with 2 handy cuffs which can be placed on two limbs at once or at different parts of the body.
We are especially interested how BEMER horse set might support healthy hoof proportions and postural ideals and welcome more research on this topic by BEMER. In studies, low plantar P3 angles have been found to be associated with increased incidence of lameness in the hind limb, primarily in the stifle, then the hock, then the ligamentous tissues (see: An investigation into the association between plantar distal phalanx angle and hindlimb lameness in a UK population of horses - P. E. Clements, I. Handel, S. A. McKane, R. P. Coomer First published: 30 September 2019 https://doi.org/10.1111/eve.13186). There is a direct correlation between pathologies in the foot and further up the limb in horses with low palmar or plantar pedal bone angles (commonly seen in horses with low heels with/without long toes). There is also a correlation between postural abnormalities or compensatory postures and poor hoof proportions....
How do you use BEMER?
BEMER has proven to be simple and quick to use and is easily incorporated into your daily horse care routine. If we can use it, anyone can! All the horses seemed to be totally unconcerned about the BEMER and have been very relaxed during and after every session! Now, they happily munch on their hay while we apply the set and go about checking their hooves and daily routine. This video tells you a bit more about how to use the BEMER horse set...
